Travel to Pittsburgh

For the 2012 institute, Scholars were required to arrive in Pittsburgh for check in on June 3, 2012. The introductory institute ran throughout most of June, and Scholars departed from Pittsburgh on June 28, 2012.

Flying into Pittsburgh

i3 Scholars contact People's Travel Agency at 412.621.0799 to make flight arrangements. Once a reservation is made, People's Travel emails an itinerary. You must verify the itinerary for accuracy and confirm with People's Travel. Once the reservation is made and confirmed, the i3 Director submits payment to People's Travel.

Getting from the airport to campus

i3 Scholars are encouraged to take the 28X bus line. The ride to campus should take between 45 minutes and an hour. For route information, see the Pittsburgh Regional Transit website. Other modes of transportation are available from the airport, including SuperShuttle and taxis.

Taking the bus or train

If you take the bus or train to Pittsburgh, you will need to make your own arrangements, and you will be reimbursed for your travel expenses. Please present your travel receipts to the i3 Director upon arrival. Megabus, Greyhound and Amtrak all serve Pittsburgh.

Driving or getting dropped off

If you would like to park a car on campus for the duration of the institute, you must contact the i3 Director for a parking pass. Parking passes cost about $100 for the month and are not covered by i3. Driving directions to the University of Pittsburgh are available from the university.
